This may possibly be the best hip-hop album to ever touch shelves. This is the album that people say you are not a real hip-hop fan if you don’t own a copy.Illmatic is Nas’ debut album and it’s one of the few albums in any genre that I can listen to all the way through and not skip songs because every one is a gem.Illmatic consists of most of Nas’ major hits. The Genesis began the classic collaborations between Nas and AZ, NY State of Mind, Halftime,The World Is Yours,Memory Lane,One Love, and It Ain’t Hard to Tell were all on this album. This album is a blueprint for how hip-hop albums should be.

Illmatic is like a Michael Jackson caliber album where you listen to it and just song after song after song is huge. This isn’t the album that made Nas my favorite Rapper.I think I started listening to Nas around the time It Was Written came out but once I discovered this, I fell in love with it.

  • Every Song has replay value
  • The Production on the album is better than most Nas albums

  • This isn’t the most creative of Nas albums.

I give Nas’ debut album a
10 out of 10
